Vila Nova de Gaia, Aug 2024

Finding a great attorney was crucial for my case. Jorge is excellent, both in handling the law and being approachable. We navigated a civil litigation case and successfully secured a refund.

Lisbon , Oct 2025

I hired her to prepare and translate my documents for submission to the Portuguese services, and she went with me to the NGO department to file everything. In the end everything worked out and I’m satisfied, and later she even helped me get a mortgage at the bank - thanks to her we got it. Communication and timing weren’t always fast, they have a lot of work and sometimes don’t answer quickly, but she’s polite and I trust her. The price felt a bit higher than the market, but overall it was good.

Braga, Aug 2024

Navigating property purchases can be complicated, but our lawyer made the process so much easier. We found his English skills and careful, methodical approach invaluable when we bought a property in Braga and later evaluated options in Bonfim. His practical advice led us to walk away from a bad deal, and I’m recommending him to my brother, who’s moving here soon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring debt lawyers in Lisbon.

Are there English-speaking debt lawyers in Lisbon?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring debt lawyers in Lisbon?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
Are these lawyers properly registered in Lisbon?
Yes. Practising lawyers must be registered, with the Ordem dos Advogados in Portugal. It is fine to ask, and a reputable firm will confirm it.
What should I avoid when hiring debt lawyers in Lisbon?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later. And never use someone who cannot show the right certification.
How do I explain what I need if my Portuguese is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say debt lawyers in Portuguese?
In Portuguese, debt lawyers are usually called advogados de dividas. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find debt lawyers I can trust in Lisbon?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.
