We hired David and his team when we moved to Barcelona to help us with our taxes in Spain, and they’ve done our taxes every year since 2023. They’re very thorough, on top of things, give us a heads up about stuff, and with the digital certificate they handle whatever we need done, explained properly and clearly. Communication is good, though sometimes the speed at which they respond could be improved. Price felt fair and they’re professional and respectful.

I had a problem with an inheritance about five years ago. I had been with other lawyers and everything was pretty bad, and in the end I went with Yasir and he was able to solve the whole thing. He explains everything very well, answers quickly, took a lot of interest, and prepared me for a court hearing; the case was tangled and it took about eight months, but I felt calm and the price was good. Compared to others there is an abysmal difference, I trust him and I am even planning to consult him about selling and buying a property.

I started working with David and his team a little over three and a half years ago when we were buying an apartment in Barcelona as a company, and they helped with setting up the company in Spain and the whole purchase process. Since then they’ve been our go-to lawyers for anything legal, including paying our taxes there and handling my legal stuff and my husband’s, and they always manage calls around a 7-hour time difference with no problem. Communication and professionalism have been great and we’ve never had an issue. Prices feel worth what you pay - not super expensive - and I’d recommend them to anyone looking for legal counsel in Barcelona.

How much do family lawyers cost in Madrid?

Real price ranges from the jobs our vetted family lawyers actually do. Prices updated October 2026

Alimony and maintenance

How much does a lawyer for child support or alimony cost in Madrid?

Setting or changing child or spousal support costs less when both sides agree; for a contested claim some firms base the fee on one year of the payment at stake, and the procurador is often extra.

Agreed change to support
€300 to €1,200
Contested change to support
€900 to €3,000
Court claim for child support
from €690

Child custody

How much does a child custody case cost in Madrid?

Putting an agreed custody plan in front of a judge is fairly cheap, while a contested case means a full hearing and often a psychologist's report, which is paid separately.

Agreed custody plan, both parents
€300 to €1,500
Contested custody case
€1,000 to €6,000

Divorce proceedings

How much does a divorce cost in Madrid?

Agreed divorces are usually sold at fixed prices that often include the court agent (procurador) and IVA, so check what a quote covers; contested divorces cost far more and appeals are billed on top.

Agreed divorce, online fixed price
€205 to €350 per spouse, all in
Agreed divorce through a local firm
€600 to €2,000 for the couple
Notary divorce, no minor children
€150 to €210 per spouse
Contested divorce
€1,200 to €5,000, more with experts

Property division

How much does it cost to divide marital property in Madrid?

Shared marital property can be split at a notary without a lawyer, though most couples take advice; the notary's fee comes on top of a lawyer's fee.

Agreed split of marital property
€400 to €1,200
Contested split in court
€1,500 to €3,000, more per stage

Inheritance disputes

How much does an inheritance dispute lawyer cost in Madrid?

Challenging a will or claiming your forced share is priced case by case; some firms take a share of what they recover and only charge if they win.

from €1,490, often €3,000 or more
Success fee on what is recovered
10% to 20%

Inheritance proceedings

How much does a lawyer to handle an inheritance cost in Madrid?

Ask for a fixed fee rather than a percentage of the estate, which gets expensive on a simple file; notary, land registry and taxes are paid on top.

Uncontested estate, handled in full
€950 to €3,000 plus IVA
Declaration of heirs when there is no will
from €250 plus IVA

Will drafting

How much does it cost to make a will in Madrid?

A Spanish will is signed before a notary, who charges roughly €40 to €80; a lawyer is optional but worth it for blended families or larger estates.

from €150 to €250
Will for a blended family
from €450

How much does family mediation cost in Madrid?

Private mediators charge by the session and most couples need around 4 to 8; public family support centres offer it free or cheaper depending on income.

free or reduced by income

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring family lawyers in Madrid.

Are there English-speaking family lawyers in Madrid?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring family lawyers in Madrid?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
Are these lawyers properly registered in Madrid?
Yes. Practising lawyers must be registered, as colegiado with the local Colegio de Abogados in Spain. It is fine to ask, and a reputable firm will confirm it.
What should I avoid when hiring family lawyers in Madrid?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later. And never use someone who cannot show the right certification.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say family lawyers in Spanish?
In Spanish, family lawyers are usually called abogados de familia. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find family lawyers I can trust in Madrid?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.
