Rachel

Barcelona, Feb 2026

I was traveling with my two rescue dogs and needed a vet to come to the apartment because they get super stressed at clinics. Claudia came quickly, told me the fees up front, examined my older dog, spotted a throat infection, gave a painkiller, and wrote prescriptions I picked up at a regular pharmacy the same day. My dog started improving within 48 hours, and she even checked in after to see how things were going. Price felt reasonable, meds were a bit expensive but that's the pharmacy, and she was lovely with the animals and with us, which made everything feel much easier in a stressful moment.

Jane

Maresme, May 2025

I’ve known Britta for over 10 years, maybe 15. I adopted a cat from her when she was working at her clinic and she did the vaccinations, and she’s still my primary vet now that she works independently in the Maresme area. She’s very professional, very friendly, and very knowledgeable, always explains everything clearly, gives me all the options, and never pressures me - I decide after she lays it out. If anything is wrong with my cat I go to her to sort it out, and while clinic stuff can be a bit expensive, the quality is worth it.

Barcelona, Apr 2026

I contacted Claudia for help with my dog's anxiety, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. She offered a home visit, making it easy to fit into our busy schedule. Claudia is extremely professional and understanding, clearly experienced with sensitive dogs. She handled my dog with care and provided useful tips and a clear plan to help improve the situation. Everything from scheduling to the visit and payment was smooth, which I appreciated since I'm not fluent in Spanish. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and compassionate vet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What expats want to know before hiring veterinarians in Barcelona.

Are there English-speaking veterinarians in Barcelona?
Yes, and more do as the expat community grows. The hard part is knowing who is reliable before you book, so every one we list is reviewed by other expats who have actually used them.
What should I check before hiring veterinarians in Barcelona?
Read recent reviews, be clear about exactly what you need, and agree the scope and an estimate in writing before any work starts. For anything regulated, check they hold the right credentials for the job.
What is the most important thing to know before booking?
Be clear about what you want and get the price and scope agreed up front, so there are no surprises. Reading other expats' reviews is the quickest way to find someone who does the job well and communicates clearly.
What should I avoid when hiring veterinarians in Barcelona?
Avoid paying the full amount up front (a deposit can be fair), anyone who will not give a clear quote, and unusually cheap prices that get padded with extras later.
How do I explain what I need if my Spanish is limited?
A photo, a short video or a written list does most of the talking, and the professionals we list are used to international clients. Booking an English-speaking one takes the stress out of it entirely.
How do you say veterinarians in Spanish?
In Spanish, veterinarians are usually called veterinarios. That is the word to search for or to ask a neighbour, though many professionals here are used to the English term too.
How do I find veterinarians I can trust in Barcelona?
Check the reviews and any credentials before you book. On Locallista the reviews are phone-verified and the ranking is based on real expat experience, not who paid the most.
